I found a power outage with an encore. That’s a fairly aggressive way to test the sound system.
In this 2005 pull from Rocks Vault, Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down remembers two shows. First, playing during the opening of the Indy 500 the previous year. Then a Cincinnati performance with a much smaller setup than anybody had planned.
Two speakers. Around 10,000 people.
Brad recalls a car hitting a light pole and knocking out what he estimates was probably a quarter of the city’s power. He also mentions returning for a makeup show.
During the interrupted performance, he and Greg had one tiny amp, two little speakers, and a crowd Brad puts at around 10,000. Greg had a snare drum. Security supplied the flashlights.
They played roughly six more songs, Brad says, and got the crowd singing with them. He calls this the “far less glorious” memory, but says it was probably just as memorable as playing the 500.
I’m calling that a very loud ending for a story about losing power.
