Dave Mustaine had nothing against tattoos, piercings or motorcycles. He just didn’t think any of them made someone a better musician.
In this September 22, 2006 interview at Chicago’s Congress Theater during Gigantour, the Megadeth frontman talked about musicians adopting tattoos, piercings, motorcycles and a “tough guy” image, asking, “What are you trying to prove?”
“If you’re a musician, just because you’ve got tattoos and piercings doesn’t mean you’re any good at being a musician,” Mustaine said.
Then he put it more directly: “You’re just a tattooed, pierced musician that sucks.”
Later that night, Megadeth’s set included “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due,” “Peace Sells,” “Hangar 18,” “Symphony of Destruction” and “Washington Is Next!”
BandMonkey bought a motorcycle. It’s a banana. Looks tough.
