Wes Borland: “How Can Everyone Still Be So Excited About Oprah Winfrey?” (2007)

One word gets Wes Borland talking about magazine covers, celebrity and self-importance in this April 2007 interview at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago.

One word: Oprah. Wes Borland had a few more.

During an April 2007 word-association interview at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago, Borland was given Oprah Winfrey’s name. He questioned her appearing on every cover of O, The Oprah Magazine, including how she could look “completely overjoyed” issue after issue.

He said “self-importance is such a turn off” before asking, “How can everyone still be so excited about Oprah Winfrey?”

At the time, Borland was focused on Black Light Burns. The band was in Chicago for its April 30 live debut at Buddy Guy’s Legends, ahead of a May run with Chevelle and the June 5 release of its debut album, Cruel Melody.
